A Godly Father

“God had something in mind when He made the first father.  He assigned him a specific role in life and all of a father’s activities are measured against that standard.

A little boy needs a father.  He needs a father to teach him how to be a man…to take him by the hand and lead him through the maze of life…to teach him to be strong, to be gentle, to be loving and to be a defender of the right.

A little girl needs a father too.  She needs a father to protect her…to counsel her on life’s problems…to teach her how to be a woman.

The home needs a father to serve as provider, protector, spiritual leader and counselor.

While the world seldom hears what a father says to his children, the effects of his counsel will be felt by the next generation…the next…and the next.

To fathers the Bible says:
“Husband, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church.”  Ephesians 5:25
“Fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”  Ephesians 6:4

A Father’s Day Prayer
Dear Lord:  We thank you for fathers and their special place in the life of the family.  Grant that the fathers of our church and our nation shall learn and accept the unique role You have given them.  Give them the spiritual discernment to lead their children to know God as Father through faith in Thee.
We pray that fathers will have the wisdom to express Your truth in such a way that their home will be heaven on earth because You are in it.  We pray these things in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.      Amen”                                                                    Author Unknown

The measure of a man can only be determined by his Creator.  Man was made in the image of God therefore ought to be in His likeness.

A parent bought a large globe of the world for their son.  They had placed it in his bedroom. That evening some friends came by so the parents wanted to show them the large globe of the world.  So, the father went into the room and began carrying it out.  The boy awakened and asked, “Daddy, where are you going with my world?”

That’s the issue confronting every dad and parent…what kind of world are we preparing for our children and future generations?  We ought to build for God.  We ought to be people of God, following His son, Jesus.

One Response to “A Godly Father”

  1. Since God is called Father, many people who have had an earthly father that wasn’t what he should be will then turn against God as their heavenly Father due to their experience here on earth. This is a tragedy. However, there are those who don’t let an earthly father influence them toward evil. Everyone needs to take responsibility for themselves in choices that they make. May all fathers try to live as God would have them.
