Spiritual Log Jam

It must be an exciting experience to watch huge masses of lumber as it floats down the river to the saw mill.  But, all of a sudden, there is a great deal of concern as the logs begin to pile up against each other with a thud.  The loggers realize that there is a log jam. Some where out in the midst of all the logs, there’s a key log which is causing the jam.  This log must be found and straightened out.  This is a crisis in the logger’s life.  The logger goes out on the logs, crossing them like a ballet dancer.  He finds the key log causing the jam.  He gets it straightened around enabling the logs once more to flow freely down stream.

It seems to me that we are confronted with a spiritual log jam as we seek to win the world to Jesus.  We are bogged down by our indifference and neglect.  The littleness of our effort speaks of the littleness of our faith.  From our ivory tower of correct theology, we tell sinners that Jesus loves them. But, it is so very professional, and impersonal.
Is it too harsh to suggest that most of us Christians are not concerned, that we have no real compassion for lost souls?  We seek to deny it, but so few of us feel any pangs of sorrow for the unsaved.  We are not made heartsick at the sight of those who sin and come short of the glory of God.  Our prayers are not filled with concern for those who are spiritually in limbo and going to a Christ-less grave.  Most of our prayer effort is spent on physical and material needs, not soul needs.  If we are honest, we have to admit that the world is not being won to Christ because too many Christians are like the sick old owl.  Now,  you know how the sick owl acts?  “It just does not give a hoot.”   I hate to think that this indifference is the log causing the jam in winning the world of people to Jesus.

God is at work in His world and He wants us to join Him.  God wants each of us to have a ministry in the Body of Christ, His Church, and a mission to the world.
Our ministry is our service to believers.
Our mission is our service to unbelievers.
There has to be a balance between edifying the saved and saving the lost.  The Church exists to build one another up in the faith and to woo and win those not in the faith.
As Christians, our task is to reproduce and repopulate the earth after our own kind.  It must begin in and through every Christian.  We must be strong enough spiritually and attractive (look like Jesus) to take the Good News to those around us and throughout the world.

Isn’t that what Jesus asked?  “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Mathew 28:19-20

Let us be up and about His business.

One Response to “Spiritual Log Jam”

  1. I believe that if every member of God’s kingdom would pray that God would speak through those preaching, or leading the music, or teaching the youth, or whatever they do for the kingdom of Christ – then God would hear and answer their prayers. The person praying would be blessed with a worshipful attitude and God’s Spirit could be felt among the worshipers if they were included in the prayers. All criticisms could be gone. “Create in me a clean heart, Oh God and renew a right Spirit within me.”
