HOAX

It is a bad feeling when you know you have been taken in, deceived. I know that I am gullible.  I want to believe.  So, when I got the e-mails about the Moon and Mars being so close together.  I wanted to see it.
Perhaps, you missed the whole thing.  Here is what it is:
“The claim –on the Internet and in mass emails–is that something spectacular is going to happen in the night sky on August 27: two moons will be visible.  Planet Mars will look, to the naked eye, as large as the moon, the email promises.  Then, in all caps, it trumpets:  NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL SEE THIS AGAIN.
It is called the “Mars Hoax,” and it has resurfaced every August since 2003 according to Ben Bell.”

It really bothers me, what can you believe?  I get all kinds of wild e-mails claiming this or that.  Just because someone said it, does not make it so.  I want to caution us to be careful what we put in print and mail out or what we forward.  Some of us just swallow anything and everything.  You know that we live by what we swallow, so be careful.

Do you know you will never see the sun rise if you are looking to the West?  Dumb question, I know, but many of us are trying to do just that.  We are trying to find God by looking at what the world tells us.  To know God, we must understand God’s mind. So, how do we do that, you may ask?  May I state clearly, that I believe the BIBLE is the adequate piece of the mind of God. Therefore, it is a unique book, none other like it nor equal to it.  The Bible is a library consisting of 66 books, 39 in the old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.  There is a supernatural unity concerning these books.  It was written over a span of 1500 years, by 40 different authors from every walk of life.  It was written by Kings, servants, fisherman, poets, doctors, herdsman and even a first century tax collector.  They wrote on three different continents (Europe, Asia, Africa) in 16 different countries and in three different languages (Hebrews, Aramaic, Greek.)
No other book has endured like the Bible. Portions of the Bible has been in existence for 3,400 years or more.  Jesus said over 2000 years ago, “Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away.”
(Matthew 24:35)  The Bible has been banned and burned by its enemies from the days of the Roman empire until the present day, yet the Bible lives on.  The Bible has stood the test of time like no other book known to man.
The Bible has fulfilled its purpose.  The Bible shows us Jesus. The Apostle John wrote in John 20:31: “But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and that by believing you may have life in his name.”  The Apostle Paul wrote to young Timothy, “and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
(2 Timothy 3:15)  The Hebrew writer tells us, “that without faith it is impossible to please God.”  (11:6)
How do we get that saving faith?  Romans 10;17; “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”  There is no salvation outside of the Bible.  We are born again by the implanted Seed of God which is His Word. The Gospel message is the power of God unto salvation.  It is essential that we hear and believe the Word of God.  Study the Bible to be wise, believe it to be safe and practice it to be saved.

There is a story about four preachers discussing the various translations of the Bible.  One liked the King James version because of its beautiful English. Another liked the American Standard best because it is more literal and comes nearer to the original Hebrew and Greek.  Another liked the Living Bible translation best because of its up to date vocabulary.  The fourth minister was silent and when asked his opinion, he replied:  “I like my mother’s translation best.”  The other ministers were surprised.  They said that they did not know that his mother had translated the Bible.  “Yes, she did,” he said.  “She translated the Bible into action and it was the best translation I’ve ever seen.”

  1. thanks buddy this was great.
    God bless you and yours.

  2. HI Max,

Another great devotional. I will be using this theme as the subject of my sermon next Sunday over ‘gullible’.

We all seem to take the ‘pie in the sky’ attitude from time to time ….so Satan uses that against us in order to take the focus off of our looking to God for all things in our lives.

    Have a Super-Fantastic Labor Day weekend !!!

  3. I am so glad you wrote a devotional on this one email. So many people believe what they read on line. It would be fantastic if more folks would look a little further into these stories. God bless you and Joann
