WELCOME TO 2015…Bobby Awtrey, a pastor friend of mine who serves the Tybee Island community outside of Savannah, has written a challenging  devotional published in his Light House Newsletter.  I want to share some of it with you.

“So hang on…this is a New Beginning because…there is not one word that has been spoken, not one word that has been written or one event that has taken place…can be changed from what it was.  If we really want “Peace on Earth Good Will toward Men”…it must begin with each one of us.  We must “let go of the past.”…Wipe the dust and dirt that holds us down and move forward.   Trust God, pray hard (and often)..be forgiving and let the past be the past.  And our prayer must be like the song…”Let It Begin With Me.”  We can blame the politicians, the news media, the police or anyone else we want to, but in the end blame points backward to what has happened.  But to change the present and prepare for the future means to ‘LET IT GO’.  We have got to stop the pattern of violence, hatred, addiction, finger pointing, name calling, and belly-aching…STOP IT.

So you see…to experience change…we must change. Let go of your depression, let go of your hurt feelings, let go of your jealousy, let go of your doubt, your frustration…bad feelings, addictions, sorrow and even pain…JUST LET IT GO.  Trust God who cares, and wants to comfort you.. God who will be with you even in your times of pain and suffering.”

God has promised His presence to lead and guide you by His Spirit through His Word.
The Apostle Paul knew the truth of all this as he wrote to the Philippians in the third chapter verses 12 – 14:  “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.  Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heaven ward in Christ Jesus.”

We need to grow up and in our maturity shine as genuine followers of the Christ.   He is counting on us in this new year to act like Him.  Jesus acted like the Father for He said, “when you have seen Me, you have seen the Father.”  Can people say of us. ‘they act like Jesus’, Jesus has rubbed off on them?  Let people see Jesus through you.

  1. Dear Max,

Great message. How many times do we pay lip service to letting things go, but just don’t follow through.

    Thanks, Mark

  2. AMEN!!! Just let it go as you said. I do not know if I get to preach again, but if I do I am working on a sermon entitled, “Forgive”. Forgiveness is to let it go. May others learn to let it go. I hope soon you will get your computer back and working well.
