There is a little word in the Bible that carries a great meaning.  That word is, “BUT”.

We use this word in our everyday conversation all the time.  Such as:  “I love you honey, but–”  “I agree we should absolutely try this, but–” “I know I said that we would do that, but–”
We even use it as Christians when we say:  “I know Jesus call us to love everyone but she makes me angry.”  “I know that Jesus asks us to go to “the least of these” but they don’t like Christians anyway.”  “Jesus asks us to give sacrificially and I would but I just can’t do it right now.”

Here are some wonderful “but” scriptures for us:
“For you were once darkness BUT now you are light in the lord, live as children of light.”  Ephesians 5:6
“BUT even if we or an angel from heaven preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned.”  Galatians 1:8
“Do not be anxious about anything, BUT in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.”  Philippians 4:8
“All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and allowing its desires and thoughts. Like the  rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.  BUT because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when were dead in transgressions, it is by grace you have been saved.”   Ephesians 2:3-5
“And that is what some of you were, BUT you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”  I Corinthians 6:11
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  BUT thanks be to God.  He gives us the victory  through the Lord Jesus Christ.  I Corinthians 15: 56-57

Watch for this little but powerful word “BUT” as you read the Scriptures.  It is a very important word and brings great meaning to the verse.  The word, BUT, actually negates whatever the prior statement or thought was.
